A Baker's Dozen

Baker's Dozen is up on the Studio Calico site. I recently signed up for their kit club and I'm officially in LOVE! It's amazing. I didn't have a chance to get any of the add-on kits for February. They go on sale at midnight and I really should have waited up but I couldn't do it. So, now I have to go without Petits Fours (my favourite add-on!)

I've discovered their lovely site and am now obsessed. Altering my profile as we speak so that I can msg on their board and join in the chatting fun. Hoping to find more 20-something scrapbookers!

My photos from shutterfly haven't turned up yet. It's taking a really long time-and time is of the essence when waiting for scrapbooking pictures. Therefore the next round I am going with a new site. I'll let you know how that turns out for me.

I should have time to post some interesting layouts from last weekend sometime over the next few days. Be on the look out for them!

Have a happy weekend folks!

I'm Back

k. Found information on the web on how to scan layouts. Had time to only do one so here are the quickie results!
Not the best job but you get the idea. It's amazing what you can find when you google! ;) So this is a layout I made chronicling our trip home to Newfoundland for the holidays. The picture is out the window of the Ottawa International Airport. The sun is rising in the sky and I'm on my way to Newfoundland. Matthew followed a few days later. Our trip there was easy. Our trip back-not so much. I'm still waiting to hear from Porter Airlines. Lost bags, maintenance problems, changing planes, awake for 36 hours-that's the story in a nutshell. But, we'll laugh about it eventually and that's why we have a scrapbooking page.

Waiting...

So you'll have to wait to see the pages I did on the weekend. So frustrating! I can't figure out how to scan a 12*12. The pictures i've been taking aren't turning out great when I crop them. They look all squished and unnatural. So i'm heading to google to figure this out...

Still haven't gotten my shutterfly pictures in the mail.

Feel like today is a waiting game...

A Scrappy Day.

So today at my LSS I cropped with a full house. I had a great seat at the end of the room and spent most of the day with my earphones plugged in. Listened to some new music I downloaded and got seriously inspired. 13 layouts later I left a little early to come home and go out with Matthew. The light in our house isn't great for taking pics at the moment. So here's a sneak peek of what was accomplished. Full views will come tomorrow.

I promised pictures of my 'Resolutions Album' last weekend and forgot to post them. So here are those too. Nothing's filled in just yet but it will be. Oh it will be!

So here's a view of the cover. My 'one little word' for this year is

POSSIBILITY

So it's fitting that it be the title of my album. Below are a few pics from inside the album-some of my favourites. I used lots of bright papers, mostly from October Afternoon and Cosmo Cricket.

More tomorrow.

My First Digital Layout

Here it is folks...my first foray into the digital scrapbooking world.
I am so proud of myself. So, Ali Edwards had a little 'Digital Scrapbooking' week on her blog. It was wonderful. I learned how to use a layered template tonight-a freebie from her blog. Check it out if you're into digital. You will need Photoshop Elements. Anyways, so I had some photos of me as a very young child with Mom & Dad so I used them as my prompt of "Remember This". I like how it turned out. Also, I discovered a new site for getting random size photos, including 12*12 layouts, developed:

Might check that one out next. I am kind of tempted to have this layout printed. It's pretty cute.

Heading to a crop tomorrow. Honestly, I am low on photos to scrap so I might put together something small with some blogged wedding photos I have from August. I'll post some pics tomorrow night if I get a chance.

Have a happy weekend folks!

Inspiration

A picture-less post today. I haven't uploaded my 'Resolutions' album pics just yet. But, some things to share.

Hoping to be inspired by some recent pics that I ordered from shutterfly.com last week. After reviewing the many companies that were available for online printing I chose them. It DID help that they gave me 50 free 4*6's for signing up! So they're on their way to my house. They shipped on Friday. I'm hoping they will come by the end of the week. I am attending a crop at my LSS The Scrapbox on Saturday. Planning on getting lots of scrapping in. Still thinking about what I should download to listen to while I'm there. I like to listen to music rather than chatting while i'm there-more productive I think.

On a whole other note...In my daily blog reads I was recently inspired by this blog post by Cathy Z. Her post sent me to yet another site to discover The Badasses! A seriously kickass group of girls who have lost a ton of weight. They have ideas to motivate you, training tips and routines and all kinds of fitness goodies. I did a new treadmill routine & a new weight routine today from the blog. I am dying right now. Seriously-it kicked me BUTT!

K. Gotta go. I'm reading a great book- "The Memory Keepers Daughter". I'm hooked. Going to read.

Come take a look

There's been a lapse in posting for the last few days. It's been busy around here-lots of studying and reading for my Masters course. So I have a number of things to post...

So I don't scrapbook for July month. I take a hiatus to go to camp in New York for the summer. So here's two layouts that represent August in honour of my 12 Favourites of the Year series.

This is actually a layout I made in August after our wedding. Mark Oakley from Oakley Photography took the photo. The girls and I had some group time down on the driveway of the Park House Manor, the location of our rehearsal cocktail party. It was fun and the photos tell the whole story. We laughed and laughed. I love this layout because it is just so "US".

Then there's this layout. I didn't actually make this in August but we went on our honeymoon to San Francisco so this counts as far as i'm concerned. We took this photo outside Macy's after buying new shades. I love it. It's one of my favourites of the two of us.

Have I told you how much I love a good mini-album? Well, turns out i've made quite a few of those this year too. But, the first for 2010 is my resolutions album. Last night I spent the evening creating an album that could document my resolutions for this year. It's not 100% finished but here's a few sneak peeks.

It's almost done. I will post a full view soon. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

This & That...

I'm super excited about all the new product that's being prepared for CHA this month. I'm looking forward to Basic Grey's release and the new American Crafts line that Liz K is putting out. It looks super pretty. She has a sneak peek on her blog today.

I actually bought her first book '52 Scrapbooking Challenges'. I'm going to do one challenge a week for the year. The first one is a layout inspired by an outfit. I think i'm going to use some wedding pics. I need to get them developed. I'm just deciding on a new printing company. I'm thinking of trying an online company for a change. I've been disappointed with the results i've gotten from the last couple batches of pictures i've gotten from places like Costco and Walmart.

So here's the scrapbooking photo for today. It's a layout from my first online class. I took it last May/June and it was all about inspiration. This was the first layout for the course. I love the colour combo-one I NEVER use either-but the results were very appealing to me.

The journaling is a list of 25 things about me at 25. I turned 26 in May but the journaling was written right around the time of my birthday. Even now I can already see that some of the things on there have changed...

Running Resolutions

Remember that pesky little resolution I made about running a few posts back? Well, I made a resoloution like that last year too. I've never been a 'runner' really. But, in honour of the wedding and as a 'bonding' activity I took up running with Matthew. It was our 'team building' we called it-two big nerds, I know! But, we had a goal to run the 5km during Ottawa Race Weekend. Then I discovered I was basically doing that by December. So, he upped the goal to 10km. We prepped for months. But, I wasn't prepared for the 34-degree, sunshiny day we had or the throngs (say over 9000) of people who ran the race with us. Needless to say I was disgusted by the end-too many people, too hot, not enough space, etcetera...But, after it was all said and done I am thankful that I completed it. We've decided to do it all again in May but instead do the half-marathon. I must be crazy!

I made this layout to remember the race. There's a before and after and i'm sure you can figure out the after shot-the one with our medals where we both look kinda gross. The layout is plain but it helps me remember I did something I never thought I was capable of-RUN.

I Scream, You scream, We all scream for...

April came along and I had spring fever. Anyone who knows me accepts my love of ice cream. The first summer at camp while I was away from Matthew I actually ate my weight in ice cream-eating my feelings again I think....So inspired by that love of mine, Matthew found me a spot here in town where they do their own chocolate-dipped hard ice cream cones! whattttt? It's actually like a drive in spot based on the 50's called "Dick's". It's awesome...we go there for cheap hamburgers and chip truck fries every now and again. So here's the layout I put together with some of those *Yummy* photos....side note: please note the joy on my face while holding that ice cream cone!

On a whole other note...I have been chained to my computer for the last two days. If i'm not working i'm checking discussion threads for my two M.Ed courses this semester. That little word: POSSIBILITY...yeah, just have to keep chanting that one in my head. I hoping the work load will slacken once everyone's routine settles in and people aren't such keeners online...i'm sorry i'm not into checking over 100 posts a day. K. Chin up, unnecessary complaining.

May layout tomorrow...here's a hint: I may have to do another one of these layouts this coming May.

Brenda & Possibility

It turns out all things are possible and after much debate we finally bought a car last March. Matthew's company was bought out and he ended up moving buildings to a place around the corner from my school. Needless to say, I was not riding the bus with him for 1h 20m each day when to get to work when we could get to work, in the comfort of a car, in a mere 25 minutes.

So, he did the dirty work of researching the situation and by early March we had a new car. Now, anyone who knows me, knows that I have this obsession with naming inanimate objects. So, the name of the car was left in limbo for some time until finally she was christened 'Brenda' in honour of Donnie Dunphy and Brenda, celebrities
from our Newfoundland roots. She's a beauty! A silver Volkswagon City Gulf. And finally Matthew & I traveled to and from work together. It continues to be one of my favourite parts of our day. It's like a beautiful modern-day fairytale really...so naturally I made a layout about it...

................................................................................................................................

Possibility/Possible:
–adjective

1. that may or can be, exist, happen, be done, be used, etc.
2. that may be true or may be the case, as something concerning which one has no knowledge to thh contrary.

That's my one little word for the year. I had been waiting for my word to find me and suddenly in a TV commercial over the weekend there it was. POSSIBILITY. It seems my goals for the year are numerous and may be somewhat difficult but I think this word, possibility will see me through.

Layout #2 & 2010 Resolutions

IMG_7269

This is a layout I completed in February. I know, I know-it's about Halloween. Last year Matthew & I were the Blue Man Group. We used the photo for our christmas cards which read "We'll have a BLUE Christmas without you".

This layout took me a while to make because I wasn't inspired by the materials I had at hand. This page originally had these pale blue thickers on it for the "BLUE" portion of the title and I really didn't like it. So I tucked away the layout and found it again in February. I really like the white stickers mixed with the blue. It really pops with the spider transparency from Hambly.

Now it's resolution time. As I said in a previous post, I have 12 of them. One for each month so to speak.

January: Create and maintain a blog!
February: Attack technology: a.k.a figure out my new Macbook, nikeplus & the smartboard at school.
March: Do a layout/day. ( I have a break in March for 2 weeks so I might actually be able to maintain this!)
April: Conquer Photoshop.
May: Run & finish a half-marathon with Matthew.
June: Complete the Ali Edwards course I started in September (yes, 2009).
July: Read 12 'serious' books. I usually read trash.
August: Learn to sew using my sewing machine. Maybe make an apron.
September: Take a photography course.
October: Send in a scrapbooking submission.
November: Save enough money to look for a home of our own...maybe...
December: Be halfway through my Masters.

I am going to be a busy girl in 2010. I realize that most of those goals take a lot of preparation and commitment to achieve. I am not crazy! The months are just guidelines to keep me honest. I believe that all things are possible. Which is a perfect way to introduce my

for the year:
Possibility

Another layout and more on 'possibility' tomorrow.

Completed: December Daily & A 2009 Countdown

It's done. My December Daily is officially finished. Last night I worked for hours to finish the last 12 pages. Our travels over the holidays prevented me from keeping up on the album. No room in my suitcase for scrapbook supplies! So, to celebrate here are a few of my favourites from the album.

Matthew & I opening our presents-early because he couldn't wait for me to open mine! I got a Macbook-yes, I know I have the best husband EVER!

The Snowflake Ball was our way of celebrating the holidays with our 'Ottawa' friends. With everyone separated during the holidays we even had our own countdown to the New Year.

This is the view from the airport on my way home on the 21st of December. The way home was easy-the way back, not so much.

I love the bottom picture. Jeremy & Matthew are hysterical. I married into a crazy but fun family.

Another favourite shot. We usually exchange gifts on Christmas Eve but this year we celebrated our first married Christmas with a nice bottle of champagne and an oriental party pack from M&M-a family favourite during the holidays.

We see all the Follett's at Randy's on Boxing Day. This year my cousin Robyn sent them giant blow-up boxing gloves. Let's say that the adults enjoyed them more than the kids.

On another note...

I dug through my layouts and picked out my 12 favourites from the last year. So i've decided that for the next 12 posts I'll post one of my favourites-one from each month of the year more or less.

So, in January I made this double 12 by 12 layout:

The photo of the layout isn't great but the layout is still one of my favourites. The layout is based on a Becky Higgins sketch from a Creating Keepsakes Magazine from 2008. It's a collection of photos from our trip home to Newfoundland last Christmas. We had a wonderful celebration with friends and family. John, D & Rick came to visit us for New Year's and it was so much fun having them in Newfoundland.

On another note, I am putting my resolutions together and will post them soon. I have 12 of those as well. I like to work in easy and common numbers if you hadn't noticed.

Look for February's favourite layout tomorrow.

This is it...

...the first blog post and New Year's resolution #1: open & sustain a blog for the year. After watching Julie & Julia I was eager to get my ideas and my work out in the world. The story was inspiring and if you haven't seen it I recommend the rental. Meryl Streep is a rock star!

Speaking of resolutions...I have many. 12 to be exact. One for each month. My mind is swimming with a mini-album I'm planning on creating to identify the goals and document them as I meet each one. But, for now I'm still finishing my December Daily album inspired by Ali Edwards. My luggage was lost on the way home from Newfoundland (look for that scrapbook page soon!) and my scrapping motivation has been low.

So, for now I'll leave you with this collage of our New Year's eve. Chinese food, Quality Street and some serious comfort clothes in the warmth of Matthew's rec room at home in Newfoundland. Yeah, we were lame but it was just how I wanted to ring in the new year.

P.S: We did watch the fireworks from the house at Midnight! It was our first New Year's as a married couple.
