Silly Summer Snapshots

Summer is one of those times that you are given a license to be silly. Summer sunshine brings out the sundresses, pools and sprinkers and of course a few pranks. Summer also means summer camp.

This layout was created using The Paperie's latest kit-a mix of Dear Lizzy & Heyday collections with a few other bits and bobs thrown in for good measure. Frankly, it was lovely and lent itself to some girly photos from last summer.

Hense this pink layout-

IMG_1365

I love pink & teal.

IMG_1382

It's not a combination I gravitate towards normally but I do love it so. These pics were taken at last summer's end-of-summer banquet at camp with two of my girls-Daniela & Bridget. We have so much fun at camp. I miss these girls and our antics at camp.

What I'm Working on Wednesday

Hello again!

This week I'm sharing a little sneak peek of next week's Mojo Monday post for The Paperie.

You Are My Favourite

I recently deveoped a few larger photo for an assignment I was working on. This one didn't make the cut for the layouts I made but I L.O.V.E. this photo and had to scrapbook it.

IMG_1370

I used my favorite new stamps-the Stepping Stone alpha from Studio Calico.

IMG_1372

I could totally see myself using this alphabet to create a layout like Kinsey did in this sneak she posted for Studio Calico's August kit-Summer of '69.

I also broke out some more stamps-notice how much I'm trying to use my stamps-and made a little boarder at the top of my page with the set I received from my Summer Stamp School class at SC.

IMG_1373

Of course, no layout is complete these days without some little wood veneer-stars made the cut for this layout. I'm in love with wood veneers.

Five For Friday

1. Have you seen all the CHA coverage this week? Seriously I am in love with so much of it. I am already mentally planning my December Daily album. I am loving the Crate paper and Studio Calico holiday lines.

2. Centsational Girl had a great round up of inspiring posts on Better Homes & Gardens this week. Makes me want to DIY EVERYTHING as usual.

3. Speaking of DIY-when Friday approaches I get so excited for Saturday morning. Garage sales abound around here on Saturday and I've hit the jackpot lately at my local garage sales. I love a good garage sale because you can get something for nothing and DIY the crap out of it. This past weekend I found a side table, a little jewelery table and a bunch of little decorating items. I've been DIYing all week to finish these pieces. Here's a few pieces I've been working on-

desk
jewelery
bedside

Stay tuned for the 'afters'.

4.We were lucky enough to see the new Batman movie 'The Dark Knight Rises' last night at a special screening that M won tickets to. Frankly, it was amazing. I LOVED it and now I have to go back and watch the other two again. If you like action you'll probably love this movie. It was so good.

5. I'm looking forward to the weekend. We don't have many plans but I just like having M at home with me. He's my favourite.

What I'm Working on Wednesday

So during Canada Day weekend we took an 8 hour drive out to the Humber Valley Resort with a friend of ours. Best part of the 8 hour drive-M sat in the front with our friendly driver & I sat in the back and scrapbooked.

Yep, you read that right. I scrapbooked. I packed a little kit before leaving with a few key elements and thought I would share my packing strategy and show you what I worked on.

So here's my little case-filled with some stamps and a glass block, some washi tape, a few bottles of mist, some little embellishments, the usual tools like scissors, ink pads tape and dots, a little punch. I also brought along my bag of scraps.

IMG_3982

You can see the little album that I worked on sitting on my knee to the right. I knew my 'workspace' would be limited so I brought along something small to work on. I ended up taking out most of the supplies and laying them on the car seat beside me-

IMG_3983

Of course, it got much messier than that-and I used the clear bin as my 'workspace'.And I was very productive too. Have you ever worked on something in the car or on a place or train?! How did you pack?! I'd def do it again.

This album still isn't finished- it's an ongoing project but here's what I managed to do in a few hours on the trip...

IMG_1318 IMG_1319 IMG_1320 IMG_1320 IMG_1322 IMG_1323 IMG_1324

You'll notice that it's simple with lots of repeating elements. I've been using a lot of the same embellishments and letters to keep it simple and cohesive even though I'm working on it over a period of time. Lots of little pics and stories of Eugene's adventures in his puppy days.

What are you working on? What's on your table right now?!

Sneak Peek: The Paperie July Kit

I'm sharing a layout today that I made for the July kit for The Paperie.

This month's kit was filled with some beautiful Studio Calico Heyday items and some Dear Lizzy goodness. It was lovely and pastel but somehow bright too and simply beautiful. I managed to pump out 5 layouts and still have some embellishments lying around as left overs.

IMG_1369

I love these pictures. I first shared them in my PL album but I wanted to express how much I love these four ladies-among others who aren't in the pics. I'm pretty sure these shots were taken at 1:00 a.m an hour after my 29th birthday officially ended but they are A.W.E.S.O.M.E.I am so lucky to have some fabulous women in my life!

I used a pin I had lying around to make the 'happy' flag that I used for part of my title. That chipboard is from the latest Dear Lizzy collection. The teal letters are SC chipboard letters. I also thought the number paper was suitable for a birthday page!

IMG_1376

I also incorporated some little details with the My Mind's Eye label and Studio Calico badge at the bottom of the grid with a few little wood veneer pieces from SC-the cameras are in the kit, the stars are not.

IMG_1375

Bottom line-I have great friends.

Project Life: Week 23 & 24

I'm back from a little blogging hiatus. I took a little blog last week but I managed to get all kinds of work done.

Today's installment of Project Life is the end of June and the first week of July.

{June 24-30}

First side...

IMG_1385

Highlights this week: I went to the spa courtesy of E & M and a birthday certificate. Eugene got a haircut-one that I actually liked! Ain't he cute!? He also decided to take up scrapbooking as a hobby. LOL. We ended out week with a trip to Humber Valley Resort with some friends of ours. Hence the insert on the right. It was without Eugene. Honestly, it was refreshing to have a little break but man, did we miss him!

The other side...

IMG_1386

More Highlights: more shots from July 1st at the cottage. Baby Liam got some books I sent in the mail! Allison sent me a shot cause she's the best mom! Eugene had a little photo shot. Yeah, I'm that annoying person that talks about their dog like it's her child. At least I'm not in denial.

{July 1-7 a.k.a Week 24}

IMG_1387

Highlights: A little swim during one of our morning walks, a visit to see Sara for some scrapbooking supplies and to make some new friends, a potluck with our neighbours and most importntly my Dad's retirement!

After 35 years he retired on July 4th. I am so happy that I was here to celebrate with him this summer!

IMG_1388

I love the simplicity of my date card this week. Just some letters with the week, a simple October Afternoon washi tape & a few wood veneer stars.

IMG_1389

Honestly, I didn't take many photos last week at all. I may have very slim pickings for PL for last week!

I can't believe it's halfway through July. Seriously?!  I'm still enjoying this project despite the fact that it's a little time consuming to put it all together each week. I also HATE being 'behind' but it turns out that there are lots of other people who are in the same boat as I am according to the blogisphere!

I will admit that last week, while prepping photos to develop, I realized that I don't have to scrapbook every little event-because they are in the PROJECT LIFE album. Now, that made the PL album worth it. Genius! Can't believe I didn't realize this sooner. So I only developed my favourite photos as opposed to everything from the last few months. It was a light bulb moment for me.

Let's Play Ball

So this month's assignment at Simple scrapper was to use red, white & blue in a non-traditional way a.k.a 'not for July 4th' pics! So I gave a few of my photos from M's softball tournament a few weeks ago a little vintage feel and used them to make this layout.

IMG_1315

I used a previous Studio Calico kit that had all kinds of lovely October Afternoon papers in it. It was a quick one to make too. A few 4 by 6 photos on a misted white canvas, matted with a red canvas. I used the other side of the red pattern paper-the green letter strip-for a little something at the bottom with some fabric tape. I also used one of the 'love this' badges I've been hoarding from 'A Life Handmade'.

An easy, simple layout for an easy assignment.

5 For Friday

1. Saw a great little mini-album on the crate Paper blog this week featuring a puppy dog and it's progress from puppy to adult dog. Such a great idea-and one that I will be scraplifting.

2. This tutorial would have been awesome for the weekend- I'm sure that there will be more sparkler pics than this one though!

IMG_4063

I love me some sparklers!

3. Shimelle had a video up on her blog this week showing how she created a few layouts as a guest designer for this month's Studio Calico kit. I love her process and her thinking. They were fun to watch.

4. Yesterday Eugene and I journeyed to Mount Pearl to visit Sara and her kiddos and pick up these, and these and these. I was excited about the scrapbooking supplies but I was also pumped that Eugene got to meet everyone and he interacted with them really well. We're trying to socialize him more so this was a great little meet and greet for him and he handled the kids' excitement very well. Sara even got a few shots with her camera and sent them to me-what a great friend!

DSC_3560

I even had a special person tie my shoes before I had to leave while I held Eugene!

DSC_3567

And this one below might be my fav-so funny! G had such a good time and was just soooo excited about the puppy doggie! Clearly Eugene loved it all.

 DSC_3569

Note: It looks like they are having a karate fight here but they were actually having a lot of fun together!

5. I've been doing a lot of reading this past two weeks and I've crossed a few books off of my summer reading list!

So far I've read:

1. Expressive Photography: An awesome book by The Shutter Sisters. While I say I've 'read' it, it's really a reference book for photographers and I know that it will be one I revisit when I want to use my DSLR more.

2. Cutting for Stone: This book was written by Abraham Verghese and it was awesome. It's long but an easy read. It's actually very intriguing and a very well put together story.

3. Left Neglected: This book was written by Lisa Genova who also wrote Dear Alice. Of course, i didn't find that out until the end of the novel. I loved this book which doesn't surprise me because I loved Dear Alice despite it's sad subject matter.

Bonus book: I finished the last in the Fifty Shades of Grey series. It was interesting and an easy read despite it's trashy nature. I had to read the series and see what all the fuss was about!

Project Life: I l Love You But You're Bringing Me Down

M introduced me to a song ages ago that goes  “New York I love you, but you're bringing me down”. Well, right now I feel that way about Project Life.

I love it. Don’t get me wrong. But halfway through the year and I just had to play catch up on the last 5 weeks. THAT can’t happen again. While I liked seeing/reliving the last 5 weeks of our lives I can honestly say that it was annoying going back and organizing, printing and putting it all together. So this summer’s goal is to stay on top of it. Get it done on Mondays. That’s PL day.

So, without further ado, grab a drink and a snack because this one’s gonna be a long one folks.

Let’s travel back to mid-May...

IMG_1223

First half of the week on the left and an extra insert on the right with 6 by 6 photos for my birthday party-some funny antics late that night!

IMG_1226

The other side of the insert on the left-there’s a journaling block going in that empty space-and then the rest of our week on the right.

Highlights: Obviously D’s visit was a highlight for the end of May. We did a lot of touristy things like visit museums and go whale-watching and eat yummy foods. I also celebrated my 29th birthday with some of my fav people in St. John’s.

IMG_1225

M & I hit up Home Depot for some new plants and M took care of all that with his green thumb.

Now let’s usher in June shall we?!

IMG_1227

Highlights: On the left more shots of D’s visit, a wedding shower for a dear friend & graduation from my M. Ed program! I squeezed everything from the week into the left page protector so I could dedicate the right side to our first Road Trip of the summer with Eugene. We had a blast at Golden Sands resort even if it wasn’t that warm!

Fav part is that date card. Love it. Those thickers + the lSC label = love.

IMG_1228 IMG_1237

Also cracked open those SC map thickers for my fav picture of the weekend of Eugene & I on the beach in Garnish, NL.

IMG_1229 IMG_1236

Then apparently I got busy or lazy and didn’t take a whole lot of photos from early to mid-June. So I did one page for each week.

IMG_1230

Highlights: (on the right) Ordinary week. Made some stuff I pinned. Had a pizza called ‘The Krista’ for dinner. Eugene snuggled with Marvin the bunny in his bed for the first time. Ordinary.

IMG_1235

(on the left) Took a class from Sara at The Paperie, went to a crop, Eugene got out for lots of walks & playtime while M took off for Ottawa.

But, while M was gone I took lots of pictures and got some gems.

IMG_1231

Highlights; Making friends at the dog park & fieldtrips, sunsets at the airport, new bathroom cabinet & painting the spare room, a night out with the girls for some shopping and dinner and M’s work softball tournament. A great week overall.

IMG_1234

I am going to include an insert this week because camp officially began on Wednesday. I emailed a little letter of course so my letter and the responses are going in an 8.5 by 11 page protector.

And this one is in progress...

IMG_1233

It's in the works. Almost finished.

Not So Simple

I set out to create very simple layouts for this month’s Simple Scrapper assignments. I suppose I was successful in my first one but not so much in the second.

Both this month’s layouts were inspired by Summer 2011 at Iroquois Springs camp. I thought I would post them today as a little 'Happy July 4th' to all my American friends!

Can you tell i’m feeling a little nostalgic? Last week was a hard one. While everyone was prepping for the kids to come, I was trying to fill my time so as not to think about everyone at orientation having a great time. Admittedly, there were a few tears.

I love these jumping photos of our leadership team from last summer. We were a great team-and mostly returners, having been at camp before. WE just worked. I miss the team.

IMG_1181

The title is kind of a double entendre- ‘last summer’ of course is Summer 2011 but it was also my ‘last summer’ at camp- at least for a while. I stuck with some simple washi tape and a little journaling on a few lines.

The products on this page are some of my favorites. I love that ‘Dear Lizzy’ velum paper and it took a while to find a layout that was worthy of it. I also love, love, love the naked AC chipboard letters I used for ‘summer’.

IMG_1194

Another fav are is the kraft tab by ‘A Life Handmade’. I’ve been coveting the product I got from her shop.

IMG_1193

So that was my version of simple.

Then I started out with a great picture and a simple concept for this layout-

IMG_1184

But it turned out a little more layered that I intended. I do however, love it.

That’s John in the picture. John and I met 6 years at camp. It was my first year as a Group Leader and his first year at camp and something just clicked and we were instant friends. He’s always had my back at camp, and that first summer I needed it too. Neither of us are back at camp this year and I got a surprise phone call from him this past week. It was at a critical moment too-he seems to pop up whenever I need to hear form him. His phone call cheered me up on a dreary afternoon and it was just delightful. While I spend time at home this summer he’s off to travel the world for the next 5 weeks. I can’t wait to hear all about his adventures!

So for this one I used an 8 by 12 photo obviously. My title is grounded by a few pattern paper flags and it needed a little mist to give it a little something. You know when you know it needs a little something?! Yeah, that’s where the mist came from-also it mimics the watercolor in the flag pieces from the Amy Tangerine Sketchbook line.

I used those naked chipboard letters by AC again and a beautiful flower exclusive to an SC kit a few months back. That Jillibean Soup sticker label ‘thank you for your friendship’ was perfect for this page.

IMG_1190

A few buttons-because I love them-and a badge with a little stamped label gave it a little flair above the title.

IMG_1189

I’m sure these won’t be the last summer 2011 photos that I scrap this summer. Whatever I need for some therapy right?!
