<br />
It's been silent around here for some time now.<br />
<br />
I've been working on a new blog for ages but it has been a long time developing. I wanted to go with a new aesthetic and even a new title. You can read a little more about the change over at my new blog which I hope you'll add to your blog roll.<br />
<br />
Come check it out @<br />

<br />
It took us three trys but we've finally gotten it right. Just goes to show that every DIY does not always go as planned despite what you see on the internet.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Try #1: Chalkboard Wall.</u></b><br />
<br />
I was so excited to try this. I had visions of creating a menu when we had friends over for dinner-which happens often btw. And of course, messages left from said friends, etc.<br />
<br />
So, I painted it. Left it for a few days as instructed. Chalked it up & then wiped it down.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13390743434/" title="IMG_5723 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5723" height="333" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3813/13390743434_1dcb58fa4a.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13390514463/" title="IMG_5725 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5725" height="333" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3724/13390514463_d879e38e16.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
And wiped it down. And wiped it down. And wrote on it. And wiped it down. The darn thing never came clean. I'm not sure if it was the texture of the wall or what but it just looked dirty all the time.<br />
<br />
Fail.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Try #2: Stencil.</u></b><br />
<br />
I used my silhouette to create a stencil of Eugene, or a cocker spaniel. I had a vision. I tried it out using some plain white paint.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13366530933/" title="IMG_1047 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_1047" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7331/13366530933_ba9f9fd139.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The stencil was too big and too close together. Not to mention that it wasn't nearly as crisp as I wanted it to be.<br />
<br />
Fail.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Try #3: White faux-brick.</u></b><br />
<br />
For the win.<br />
<br />
So during a Saturday expedition to Kent we found this faux-brick material that's actually made of plaster. That makes it super easy to cut. So after hemming and hawing about it we grabbed three boxes and put them to work.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13366394755/" title="IMG_5922 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5922" height="333" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3831/13366394755_525fb63896.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Four hours later, a lot of chalk & a decent amount of caulking we had ourselves a wall. We sprayed it down with a never-wet Rustoleum product to seal the plaster so it wouldn't crack or rub off.<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13366391905/" title="IMG_5982 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5982" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3754/13366391905_6c4e623ac3.jpg" width="333" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13366531783/" title="IMG_5983 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5983" height="333" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7235/13366531783_8c739ae3b4.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
And a little close up-<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13366390835/" title="IMG_5985 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5985" height="333" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3806/13366390835_a252701661.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
And we are in love.<br />
<br />
So naturally we upgraded the fixtures in the hallway too.<br />
<br />
This was what we had up.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13366469655/" title="IMG_1092 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_1092" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7450/13366469655_9a5f436d56.jpg" width="374" /></a>
<br />
<br />
They were here when we moved in and while I have always liked the wrought iron I'm not a fan of the yellow-y lampshades.<br />
<br />
So, we went modern with orbs.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13366461475/" title="IMG_5990 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5990" height="333" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2840/13366461475_3afd4c9e34.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13366537475/" title="IMG_5987 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5987" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3719/13366537475_cc110841e3.jpg" width="333" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Aren't they the most amazing? I love the orbs. They are simply awesome and take the whole hallway up a whole other notch!<br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i><br /></i></span>
This month I went with a 'heart' theme inspired by a picture I saw on- where else- Pinterest, for the interactive layout.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13390970434/" title="IMG_5952 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5952" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7269/13390970434_4a17f491ce.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The three papers with the paperclips are triangles that fold out to reveal more photos.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13390615085/" title="IMG_5953 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5953" height="333" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7231/13390615085_19582b89be.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I used pictures from our visit to Mallard Cottage February 1st with our friends. Conveniently, it was also our anniversary-dating not wedding anniversary. 11 years. Go us! Our meal was delicious & the company was pretty awesome too!<br />
<br />
For the pocket page I used a simple piece of vellum for the date card, which I wanted to be in the centre of the layout so I let it span two of the 3" by 4" pockets.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13390612605/" title="IMG_5955 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5955" height="333" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7438/13390612605_576521f139.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
It was another great month around here!<br />

<br />
I'm actually ready for summer-or at least summer weather. So, I'm reliving our trip to Vegas in november when it was 25 during the day and a balmy 15 at night. Those were some lovely days.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13230668995/" title="IMG_5759 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5759" height="333" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7371/13230668995_aa544a8dfd.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I took my friend Rae Lynn's advice on this layout and used up a project life card for my title. It's a great way to use leftover or favourite cards on layouts. They aren't just great for PL spreads. Check out her class at The Paperie this month for using PL cards in layouts!<br />
<br />
Now, onto the layout. The title card is obviously a reference to Frank Sinatra's 'This Town'. I do love that song. And it's Vegas personified in my opinion. Also, it was featured in ocean's & we know how I feel about those movies.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13230813883/" title="IMG_5727 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5727" height="498" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3693/13230813883_46317ba534.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Just a simple layout with some leftover pics that didn't make it into my travel album. I realized I made a mistake and put 'Eataly' on the card with the Olive Oil Gelato from Otto. Oops. Mario Batali just has so many restaurants going on. Maybe he should open up an Eataly there too!? Have to fix that little flub I guess.<br />
<br />
I'm hoping to share the travel album next week with some tips on using project life products & project life-style spreads for travel albums.<br />

<br />
1. I recently started watching <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0412253/">Veronica Mars</a>. After seeing Kristen Bell on <a href="http://www.nbc.com/the-tonight-show/">The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon</a> last week I want to see the movie. But first, I need to watch the first three seasons of the show.<br />
<br />
2. Elise Blaha's second <a href="http://elisejoy.com/make29">MAKE29 project </a>goes live tomorrow. You better believe that I'll be nabbing this one too-<a href="http://elisejoy.com/make29mar">wooden ampersands.</a> I'm thinking I'll have to make room on my gallery wall for this one. Or add it to our living room decor.<br />
<br />
3. I found <a href="http://www.nestofposies-blog.com/2014/03/diy-gold-foil-lettering-on-flower-pots/">this idea</a> on Pinterest and it is really appealing to me. It's also another use for my silhouette. I need to add some plants to my decor. We've been filling the house with more flowers lately and they are really getting me in the spring mood. Now, if only the weather would cooperate.<br />
<br />
4. Also totally obsessed with this video.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/17QQcK4l6Yw" width="560"></iframe>
<br />
5. These <a href="http://www.milktape.com/">Milktapes </a>might be the cutest thing ever. A mixtape that's actually a USB stick?! Seriously? Adorable.<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful weekend! I'm hoping for spring temperatures & clear blue skies with a dose of sunshine tossed in there. A girl can dream right?!<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>*This is a new series I've created in an effort to reveal more of myself than just layouts & DIY projects here on the blog. Topics may vary. </i></span></div>
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i><br /></i></span>
As a teacher I recognize the importance of 'professional development' and the need to enhance your skills, upgrade -whatever you want to call it- in your field of expertise. Not too long ago, I completed my Masters in Education & am about to embark on a few more courses to enrich my mind & my teaching abilities.<br />
<br />
So, naturally that led to some thoughts on 'professional development' in my favourite hobby- papercrafting.<br />
<br />
As a teacher, both in my professional & personal life, the line blurs sometimes between passions and I find myself drawn to the role of student. I believe that teaching classes and creating projects and content for courses is fun & enriching for both the teacher and the student, but sometimes it's nice to sit back and let someone create the content and learn something new without any of the pressure!<br />
<br />
So where do I go for professional development or enrichment to hone my craft skills?<br />
<br />
Well, there's the obvious- my local papercrafting store <a href="http://thepaperie.wordpress.com/classes/">The Paperie</a>. They provide classes on a wide array of topics, some of which interest me & some which scare me half to death (*mixed media, cough, cough). At <a href="http://thepaperie.wordpress.com/classes/">The Paperie</a>, I get to hang out with friends, get out of the house & learn something new. Also, shopping-need I say more!<br />
<br />
But, sometimes I want to reach a little farther and learn from the 'pros', my 'scrapbooking superheroes' so to speak. You know who they are- the big dogs like Ali Edwards, Kelly Purkey, Amy Tangerine, Cathy Zeilske, Stacey Julian, and the list goes on. <a href="http://www.bigpictureclasses.com/">Big Picture Classes,</a> an online classroom created by Stacy Julien, is a wonderful venue for online classes. I've taken a number of their workshops and self-paced classes before and throughly enjoyed them including one of Ali's classes, 'Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow'. At <a href="http://www.bigpictureclasses.com/">Big Picture</a>, I get direct access to 'superstar scrapbookers', beautiful printable content, the time is always convenient because it's whenever <i>I'm </i>free & I meet new people-or I'm left alone to do my own thing.<br />
<br />
Another way I keep in touch with the scrapbooking world & learn new things is by listening to free podcasts like <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/paperclipping-roundtable/id349547386?mt=2">'The Paperclipping Roundtable'</a>. It's an awesome podcast run weekly by Noell Hymen & her hubbie Izzy from <a href="http://paperclipping.com/">Paperclipping.com</a>. They also have a separate membership program which you can join to gain access to hundreds of videos on a variety of topics. I adore the podcast because I can use it on the go, like when I'm driving to work, there are always different guests on & it's a way to hear what some of the industry experts are thinking about different topics each week. It's also *free*!<br />
<br />
In the past I was a member of the <a href="http://www.simplescrapper.com/">Simple Scrapper</a> design team which created sketch templates for members to use to create layouts. Since my stint there, owner Jennifer Wilson has developed a number of free & paid classes via her website. Emails are sent directly to your inbox with some great information and have similar pros to using a forum like Big Picture Classes.<br />
<br />
And then there's the obvious freebies for example online tutorials like <a href="http://vimeo.com/user1200515">Cathy Zeilske's</a> & <a href="http://vimeo.com/aliedwards">Ali Edward's</a> vimeo videos. <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/">Pinterest,</a> the never-ending source of inspiration. And countless 'You Tube' videos and channels that are floating out there just waiting to be watched!<br />
<br />
The point I'm trying to make is that there's a plethora of options out there for anyone wanting to learn something new! The choices can be overwhelming but I think, like anything, you need to chose what's most important for you & what's 'right' for you and your style.<br />
<br />
I love learning. And I don't just say that because I'm a teacher either. I really do like to learn new things! It gives me confidence in my skills & that makes me feel great.<br />
<br />
Next week, as I set my goals for the Spring season, I'm setting the wheels in motion to take more time to develop new scrapbooking & papercrafting skills. I want to push my boundaries & improve on my less desirable traits (*journaler I am not) as a scrapbooker. I want to be a learner & a student this Spring.<br />
<br />

<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13230692233/" title="photo (3) by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="photo (3)" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7166/13230692233_138044d2ca.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I've been wanting to create a gallery wall in my scrapbooking room for ages. The rest of the room has come together nicely so it was time to add some art to the walls.<br />
<br />
I watched <a href="http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2013/10/how-to-style-a.html">a great little tutorial</a> from <a href="http://www.abeautifulmess.com/">A Beautiful Mess </a>to help me out and then followed their steps to figure out where everything was going to go.<br />
<br />
Stay tuned for the after-this of course is the progress pic.<br />
<br />
xoxo<br />
KUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5581717817343897362.post-89940967613647736772014-03-18T07:00:00.000-02:302014-03-18T07:00:00.664-02:30I got messy.Yep. It happened. I made a mess. Well, I helped a group of 5th graders to make a mess but I got messy in the process so I'm counting <i>that</i> as getting messy.<br />
<br />
So, I've been working in the same classroom for the last few weeks and decided to do a little art project for the cover of our novel study on <a href="http://wonder./">Wonder.</a><br />
<br />
So, I taught them some basic techniques on how to use the <a href="http://www.gelliarts.com/">Gelliart Gel Printing Plate</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13230636934/" title="IMG_1014 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_1014" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3720/13230636934_d8cf13dddf.jpg" width="374" /></a>
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/13230637174/" title="IMG_1010 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_1010" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7437/13230637174_6a520b6c3f.jpg" width="374" /></a><br />
<br />
And they loved it. So much so that two of them visited The Paperie and bought one for themselves.<br />

<br />
They turned out awesome. If you're looking for an awesome addition to your household or your classroom the Gelliart gel printing plate is one that should be at the top of your list.<br />
<br />
A big shout out to <a href="http://www.thepaperie.ca/">The Paperie</a> for letting me borrow theirs to use with the kids & to <a href="http://cathiereed.blogspot.ca/">Cathie</a> for giving me some instructions because she be the Queen of mess-i-ness.<br />
<br />
Not I have to figure out my next project-what to hook them on next?! ;)<br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;">*A sneak peek at the scrapbooking room makeover. Hoping to post the before & after's tomorrow. Stay tuned!</span><br />
<br />
1. I'm anxiously awaiting <a href="http://eliseblaha.typepad.com/golden/2014/02/make29-february-letterpress-prints.html">this print to arrive</a> in my mailbox. So excited I nabbed one of Elise Blaha Cripe's MAKE29 letterpress prints! I can't wait to frame it for the scrapbooking room.<br />
<br />
2. I want this new<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HYAL84Q/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00HYAL84Q&linkCode=as2&tag=dealiz-20"> Instax printer</a>! Without a doubt I am getting it in April.<br />
<br />
3. I was truly inspired when reading <a href="http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2014/02/on-changing-dreams.html">this post</a> last week on the A Beautiful Mess blog. Wow. She's a brave girl. I loved this.<br />
<br />
4. Dear Lizzy threw a <a href="http://elizabethkartchner.com/2014/02/12/valentine-craft-night/">Valentine's craft </a> last month in honour of the happy heart day. It looked spectacular. And it got me thinking. Just saying! ;) Check it out on her blog.<br />
<br />
5. I'm thinking of making <a href="http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2014/03/orange-dark-chocolate-popovers.html">these for brunch</a> with some friends of ours on Saturday! Don't they look delicious?!<br />

We decided-on a whim, like you would- that we would make a new coffee table. Yep. We have been discussing needing a new one for a while now but we got up the gumption to take on a little DIY project.<br />
<br />
One word: pallets. Yep. It was a pinterest-inspired project naturally.<br />
<br />
Here's a sneak peek-<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12891965645/" title="IMG_5906 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5906" height="333" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3762/12891965645_c14a91cbf8.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
We are in the staining process here. Also, that's obviously the underside of the top pallet. And yes, I'm staining it in my dining room.<br />
<br />
I'm hoping to share the finished product on Saturday!<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446207853/" title="IMG_5365 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5365" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2825/12446207853_19fd097b6d.jpg" height="333" width="500" /></a>
<br />

<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
It was so popular we had to host a second class! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Well, Valentine's is long over but it's never to late to make something cute for someone you love, so I thought I'd share some pics of what we made- 6 of each card, making a total of 30 Valentine's for each person's classmates + friends + family. Pretty cool huh?! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446558414/" title="IMG_0552 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_0552" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5546/12446558414_fa24647cc5.jpg" height="374" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
We did a little embossing, stamping, masking, misting, and punching among other things. It was a great class! It was so great we're going to do an Easter one just like it.<br />
<br />
I've been working on some samples- here's a peek!<br />

<br />
<br />
If you're local drop us a line at The Paperie to sign up for this hoppy class! It runs on Sunday, March 23 from 1-4 p.m.<br />

I don't think it would be honestly. I would love to live in NYC. It is one of my favourite places & I have so much fun when I'm there.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12892124504/" title="IMG_5757 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5757" height="333" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7386/12892124504_78b5dc3eec.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I've been trying to kill some kits & grabbed a few old pictures from a NYC vacation last Thanksgiving for this layout. I was inspired by that stamp of the city buildings you can see in the above photo. Too cute! Great stamped across the page, no?!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12892125044/" title="IMG_5728 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5728" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7374/12892125044_245de967b0.jpg" width="485" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Just a few 3 by 4 photos representing, eating, staying, shoppings & sightseeing in the city. I love the reflection photo in the shot in the ACE hotel.<br />
<br />
I also tried to liven up my title by adding the arrow for the 'i' in city.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12892123734/" title="IMG_5758 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5758" height="333" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3742/12892123734_128cbae5f6.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
We're headed back to the big apple next month and I can't wait. This time around we're Brooklyn-bound for some adventures! Stay tuned-I'm sure there will be lots of layouts of that!<br />

Why not right?!<br />
<br />
Today I have a layout that was made ages ago at the Fall retreat for my local scrapbooking store.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446231915/" title="IMG_4745 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_4745" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3688/12446231915_c78806f41a.jpg" height="498" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I love triangles. Can you tell?<br />
<br />
I used a stencil for the background layer and a combo of orange and yellow ink to create that effect. I then traced some of the triangles with dotted & straight lines.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446229665/" title="IMG_4748 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_4748" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3701/12446229665_f77424d839.jpg" height="333" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I added some stamps...<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446230515/" title="IMG_4747 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_4747" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7330/12446230515_1e44d43c53.jpg" height="333" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
...& even stamped some triangles, some of which I cut out and layered over the stenciled triangles. I included a little velum too for extra dimension.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446371123/" title="IMG_4746 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_4746" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7385/12446371123_b8cef43ed2.jpg" height="333" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
For Halloween we were lame and M decided we would be 'sheet ghosts' a.k.a the simplest costume ever. We even used a pillowcase to make Eugene his own 'ghost sheet'. I will admit it was pretty fun to dance around in-even if we did look utterly ridiculous! <br />
<br />
It's never too late to scrapbook out-of-season photos. Sometimes those are the best ones to scrapbook!<br />
<br />
xoxo<br />

<br />
For the opening layout I wanted to do something colorful and cool. After executing a similar concept for the opening of my December Daily album with the number '25'- seen here- I thought I would give the idea shot with '2014' only adding a pic in for the '0'. I love the way it turned out too!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12445975245/" title="IMG_5619 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5619" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7347/12445975245_cb6989fffe.jpg" height="489" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
For the January layout I was working with some Studio Calico tranparencies from their Magical line. I wanted a 'slideshow' concept. You can see the quick instagram video of how the pic slides out via the tab on the right here.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446460784/" title="IMG_5620 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5620" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2817/12446460784_fca53b099e.jpg" height="494" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Cool right? I love the way it turned out.<br />
<br />
We also filled a page protector but I'm not quite done filling it just yet so I'll save that for another day.<br />
<br />
I've got something triangular up my sleeve for February's layout. Here's a quick sneak peek! ;)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446125763/" title="IMG_0734 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_0734" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3722/12446125763_06e0c74df2.jpg" height="500" width="374" /></a><br />
<br />
I'm still working out the kinks but I'll keep you updated with sneak peeks as it comes together!<br />

<br />
Friday night we chilled at home and made burgers on the big green egg.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12445727713/" title="IMG_5582 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5582" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3761/12445727713_a691124408.jpg" height="500" width="333" /></a>
<br />
<br />
They were epic.<br />
<br />
On Saturday we took Eugene for his usual Saturday morning walk & stopped by our fav Second Cup for hot sustenance & whipped cream. After dropping Eugene home we went downtown for a little shopping and a few errands. Twisted Sister was having some awesome sales as were Model Citizen so we visited them.<br />
<br />
We stopped at The Newfoundland Chocolate Company to pick up some treats to mail away for a special, very thoughtful, friend.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12445590855/" title="IMG_0757 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><br /><img alt="IMG_0757" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7410/12445590855_9259c3f87b.jpg" height="374" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Then we went home for some delicious lunch. Rootbeer & grilled sandwiches. I love a good sandwich.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446072364/" title="IMG_0758 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_0758" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7301/12446072364_495dde4721.jpg" height="374" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
We spent the afternoon relaxing, prepping ribs & some of us took a nap while others' shoveled. Lol.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12445726973/" title="IMG_5587 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5587" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7442/12445726973_2a8d6f822c.jpg" height="500" width="333" /></a>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446070374/" title="IMG_5591 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5591" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3774/12446070374_29ed75199b.jpg" height="333" width="500" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12445587815/" title="IMG_5596 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5596" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3757/12445587815_d76fd587a5.jpg" height="333" width="500" /></a>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12445730163/" title="IMG_5604 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5604" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3713/12445730163_4532088583.jpg" height="333" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
And then we ate those ribs. And man, were they ever delicious.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12445586715/" title="IMG_5615 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5615" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5537/12445586715_0cb8aa852a.jpg" height="333" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
On Sunday we hit the road for a little trip to Middle Cove Beach. Yep, the beach.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12445732513/" title="IMG_0763 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_0763" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7339/12445732513_fdd35a721c.jpg" height="374" width="500" /></a>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12445589365/" title="IMG_0776 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_0776" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5539/12445589365_bc5ccaeae2.jpg" height="374" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
It was freezing but fun!<br />
<br />
Sunday afternoon we visited Bowring Park for Family Fun day & brought along our whole family. Verafin was sponsoring and E had many, many treats.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12446070714/" title="IMG_0787 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_0787" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7310/12446070714_3786759402.jpg" height="374" width="500" /></a>

<br />
<br />
We ended the weekend at the in-law's for turkey dinner with the family. E stared down the turkey, hoping it might jump off the counter and into his belly.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12445583655/" title="photo (3) by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="photo (3)" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7308/12445583655_7eb28fd961.jpg" height="500" width="375" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">*Don't worry-he did get a little turkey. ;)</span><br />
<br />
It was an awesome weekend. What did you do this past weekend?!<br />

<br />
3. M made an awesome pot of chili a few weeks ago-to keep our bellies warm. He used<a href="http://m.allrecipes.com/recipe/229730/sweet-potato-and-black-bean-chili-2"> this recipe</a> and man was it ever delicious. Bonus: It's vegetarian.<br />

4. I'm working on some awesome classes for The Paperie for February- a designer duo with Rae Lynn & another Mom & Me class. Stay tuned for sneaks.<br />
<br />
5. Perhaps my favourite shares this past few weeks are the fact that two awesome books are coming out this year-one by <a href="http://www.shimelle.com/">Shimelle Lane</a> a.k.a glitter girl, an awesome scrapbooker & Emma & Elsie are putting out a<a href="http://www.amazon.ca/Beautiful-Happy-Handmade-Room---Room/dp/0770434053/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1389208720&sr=1-3&keywords=elsie+larson"> home decor book</a> from A Beautiful Mess. As part of my OLW this year- <b><i>present</i></b>- i'm trying to spend more time in 'real life' rather than online.<br />
<br />
So, I've been narrowing down my blog list to the essentials-you know the ones that you check religiously. I thought I would share some of my favourite reads here.<br />
<br />
So here's my love list-<br />
<br />
1. <a href="http://eliseblaha.typepad.com/">enJOY it!:</a> Elise Blaha Cripe's blog. An awesome lifestyle blog, not to mention that she has a cute little baby.<br />
<br />
2. <a href="http://www.abeautifulmess.com/">A Beautiful Mess</a>: Elsie & Emma's blog. DIY, crafts, renos, recipes for drinks & meals- you name it. So fun & inspiring. They already have an app, a book & another book on the way!<br />
<br />
3. <a href="http://aliedwards.com/blog">Ali Edwards blog. </a>She always gets right to the heart of whatever she's working on. She also makes some beautiful things.<br />
<br />
4. <a href="http://www.kellypurkey.com/">It's Me, KP!:</a> Kelly Purkey's blog. Love to see what she's up to-always an adventure. Food recs, travel recs & some awesome scrapbooking as well.<br />
<br />
5. <a href="http://www.amytangerine.com/blog">Amy Tangerine</a>: Amy Tan's blog. A cute baby, some fun scrapbooking stuff & I love seeing what she's up to in LA.<br />
<br />
6. <a href="http://annmarieloves.com/">Ann Marie Loves</a>: Ann Marie Morris. Life style thoughts, DIY wedding stuff & now she's having a baby. I can't wait to see what she comes up with!<br />
<br />
7. <a href="http://www.kendieveryday.com/">Kendi Everyday.</a> A style blog with some witty writing and one super cute Texan.<br />
<br />
8. <a href="http://www.classygirlswearpearls.com/">Classy Girls Wear Pearls: </a>Another style blog. This is Sarah who is a part of Keil James Patrick. I love what she wears and the pics are always awesome too.<br />
<br />
9. <a href="http://www.cathyzielske.typepad.com/">Bits & pieces: </a>Cathy Zeilske's blog. She's witty & I admire her clean & simple style. She also has some killer tutorials for digital scrapbooking.<br />
<br />
So there's a little list of who I L.O.V.E to visit every day. I have a whole bunch of other blogs that I check in on but those are the ones that I can't miss!<br />
<br />
Who do you check in on regularly? I'd love to add some new bloggers to my reel.<br />

I've been continuing with the interactive elements throughout the year and this month was no exception.<br />
<br />
Here's Decembers layout- a nice combo of SC's & Simple Stories holiday line.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12154541205/" title="IMG_5410 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5410" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3666/12154541205_a7a592e46d.jpg" height="498" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
This month's layout deserved a space for multiple pics so we used an envelop to create a spot to tuck a mini album.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12154540485/" title="IMG_5411 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5411" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7396/12154540485_18ea9a1f1c.jpg" height="420" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12154801893/" title="IMG_5412 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5412" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7440/12154801893_65990035a7.jpg" height="456" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12154955294/" title="IMG_5413 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5413" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7326/12154955294_5119e1881b.jpg" height="490" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
And there were also gold buttons. Love these.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12154542055/" title="IMG_5409 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5409" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2836/12154542055_b82060bc0e.jpg" height="373" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12155224536/" title="IMG_5408 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5408" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3822/12155224536_deaeec613f.jpg" height="333" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
We filled our page protector too. I added an extra little insert to include some holiday photos.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12154800353/" title="IMG_5414 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5414" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7417/12154800353_202515b7f1.jpg" height="483" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12154537535/" title="IMG_5415 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5415" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3715/12154537535_fd8242a9d4.jpg" height="471" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12155217766/" title="IMG_5416 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5416" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3733/12155217766_2f5a934d3c.jpg" height="500" width="279" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12155217346/" title="IMG_5417 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5417" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3768/12155217346_222c19bf92.jpg" height="500" width="275" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I've become obsessed with the idea of writing and stamping on photos so that's something that you'll continue to see throughout the 2014 edition of KTOL.<br />
<br />
Lastly, we had to do a little recap page to finish up the album.<br />
<br />
12 little envelopes and inside of each are a little 2 by 3 piece-one side with a photo and one with notes about that month. I embellished the envelopes with the initial of each month & some bit and bobs- wood veneer, washi tape & a few stamps.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/12154535685/" title="IMG_5418 by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_5418" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5528/12154535685_e151358c61.jpg" height="500" width="489" /></a>
<br />
<br />
And that's closes the album on KTOL 2013.<br />
<br />
We have some fun things in store for the 2014 edition. Call The Paperie for details.<br />
<br />

I'm not a big fan of watching b-ball on the t.v. but give me a court and some stadium snacks and I'm your girl. As a result of their success, I've 'lost' my husband for the season. Looking at the glass half full, it does give me all kinds of time to work in my scrapbooking room!<br />

<br />
<br />
And I have been. I've been cluing up some projects that needed to be finished. I completed and shared my December Daily a few weeks ago.<br />
<br />
Today I'm sharing my Project Life Fall Album. I'm working on PL with a new approach this year- 4 Handbook mini-albums. Once for each season. Summer + Fall are done. Winter & Spring are coming.<br />
<br />
As usual it's long. So, I created a set in Flikr and added a few of my favourite elements in pics below as well. If you'd like to see all the pics and take a closer look you can view them on my flikr page <a href="http://here./">here.</a><br />

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/11631610786/" title="books by krista.l.wells, on Flickr"><img alt="books" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5487/11631610786_ae29b7d375.jpg" height="500" width="333" /></a><br />
<br />
I read some great books this year. I started the year off slow but I discovered that reading on the Ipad rocks. No more lamplight in the bed!<br />
<br />
Wehad two great, relaxing vacations this year the enabled me to devour multiple books pool or beach side & that is something I hope to do more of this coming year. A few friends and I also initiated a book club in September. It's been a hit with a mix of people from all different backgrounds. It's been fun and interesting hearing what everyone else likes to read.<br />
<br />
So it goes without saying that I had an awesome<a href="http://confessionsofatwentysomethingartist.blogspot.ca/2013/08/summer-fall-reads.html"> Summer & Fall of reading.</a><br />
<br />
The books above are some of my favs from this year-honestly, it was hard to chose!<br />
<br />

<br />
I have a long list of books that I'm looking forward to reading this winter especially a number that are hitting the big screen. I'm always intrigued to see what Hollywood comes up with for popular books. It's never as good as my own imagination but I like to see them none the less.<br />
<br />
I'll be back with a review & some recommendations in the spring.<br />

<br />
I find that mini's are the perfect little canvas to chronicle a vacation. I like to include some small bits and pieces in my PL album-which also happens to be mini- and then do a full mini album on our full vacation including the little ephemera that I've picked up along the way.<br />
<br />
I'm currently working on our Las Vegas mini album.<br />

<br />
We took our trip in November & it was a great one! We had so much fun, ate good food & even had some great company.<br />
<br />
I'm using a combination of a couple kits I'm trying to kill and some KP product including some stamps & tiny alphas.<br />
<br />
What's on your desk right now?<br />

Believe it or not, even as a serious hard core reader I've never read anything by Mitch Albom. During a book club book exchange we did at Christmas time, I received <a href="http://www.amazon.ca/Five-People-You-Meet-Heaven/dp/1401308589/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1387386646&sr=8-1&keywords=the+five+people+you+meet+in+heaven">'The 5 People You Meet in Heaven'</a>. After a teary few hours in bed one Tuesday night I shut the cover on the book and immediately downloaded his most famous book <a href="http://www.amazon.ca/Tuesdays-Morrie-Young-Greatest-Lesson/dp/076790592X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1387386607&sr=8-1&keywords=Tuesdays+with+morrie">'Tuesdays with Morrie'</a>.<br />
<br />
Have you ever read a book where you took away some sound life-advise? This was one of those books. Now, I'm sure I'm not the only person who has felt touched by this book. It's obvious reputation makes it worthy of reading because so many others loved it as much as I did. <br />
<br />
But, it gave me great pause. I thought about the changes I've made in my life and if they're really been what I wanted them to be. It made me think about the pressure I put on myself. It made me realize that I'm often rushing. It made me feel inadequate but hopeful. It made me reflect on my choices. Being that I'm only 30, some might look at that last sentence and think cynically-what choices?! You're not even that old? But, I believe that there's reflection that can be made at any age to better yourself. <br />
<br />
After reading that story I walked away with a profound sense that I have to be more <b><i>present</i></b>- in my relationships, my work & with myself. It dawned on me that my 'word' might have just found me.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I haven't participated in Ali Edward's <a href="http://aliedwards.com/2013/12/one-little-word%e2%84%a0-2014-workshop-registration-now-open.html#more-36193">One little Word</a> since it's conception in 2006. I always felt like it was a little contrived for me. The concept is a great idea but I never came by my word <b>authentically</b> and so it didn't have <b>meaning</b> for me. This year I can honestly say that '<i><b>present'</b></i> has touched me & stuck with me. I gave it a few days after reading the book to decide if it was something that I still felt strongly about and it's stuck. I reminded myself to be 'present' over the holidays- despite the rush and craziness of it all. I really tried to enjoy the moment instead of thinking about and anticipating the next event.<br />
<br />
2014 is the year of being <b><i>present</i></b>. <br />
<br />
This means slowing down. This means listening more & talking less. This means being in the moment. This means making time. This means savouring. This means enjoying the moment.<br />
<br />
I'm hoping to revisit my word at the end of every month. I'm not sure what form it will take but it will be meaningful for me. Sometimes I may share and sometimes I may not. I'm giving myself permission to evolve with my word throughout the year.<br />
<br />
Have you read anything lately that resonated with you? Have you chosen a word for this year yet? Are you participating in 'One Little Word' this year? <br />

It was a frenzy of activity, traditions, holiday parties, baking, snow & general holiday insanity.<br />
<br />
Honestly, I started the month with awesome intentions! I thought I would get a chance to work on my December Daily a few times throughout the month but no such luck. I'm not totally unrealistic-I knew that doing a DD <i>daily</i> was not in the cards for me but I usually print pictures on the weekends and have some time to sit down and put together the previous week in one shot. I didn't crack the spine until December 23rd. In fact, my scrapbooking table remained piled high with stuff-new product, class kits & supplies, wrapping paper & tools. <br />
<br />
See, we decided to lay hardwood in our hallway last month. Or rather, my Dad is awesome and laid hardwood for us two weeks before Christmas. It looks amazing and I am very grateful the awful carpet is gone but it created a mess in the scrapbooking room as it became a bit of a catch all for the tools- saws, hardwood, scraps, screwdrivers, you name it. It really put a damper on my crafting process.<br />
<br />
But I finally got around to printing photos and cleaning up the room the weekend before Christmas. I had everything ready to go for Crop night at my LSS on December 22nd. I packed, got the photos developed & then I forgot to bring the album with me. Yep. I was bummed.<br />
<br />
So finally, two days before Christmas I started it. And then I vowed to finish it before the end of December. And I did.<br />
<br />
There are so many photos to share from a full album so instead of posting each one I created a slideshow using Flikr.<br />
<br />
<iframe align="center" frameborder="0" height="500" scrolling="no" src="http://www.flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne?set_id=72157639236750835&tags=December,Daily,2013" width="500"></iframe><br />
<center>
<small>Created with <a href="http://www.flickrslideshow.com/">flickr slideshow</a>.</small></center>
<br />
If you're still interested in a closer look you can check out the set of pictures on my flikr page <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46456554@N08/sets/72157639236750835/">here</a>.<br />
<br />
The album I used is by Studio Calico's Magical collection. For the contents of this album I used mainly the December Daily kit created by <a href="http://thepaperie.wordpress.com/">The Paperie</a>. I did add some stamps from my collection & some other embellishments like the gold thickers you see throughout the album in addition to the kit.<br />
<br />
If you are still trying to finish your DD, or still in the holiday spirit, I've also been closely watching a few others creations via their blogs including Ali's. Here are a few links to some bloggers whose December daily posts I loved this season:<br />

<br />
Just a little extra inspiration for you this week if you haven't finished yours yet. If you're working on yours I'd love to see it & if you're procrastinating, don't worry! It will all get done eventually! My recommendation is to carve out some time to create for yourself! Schedule it in and treat it like an appointment you can't miss! It will feed your soul & get it crossed off your list.<br />
