Saturday DIY: Bathroom Cabinet

So it's been a bit of a dry spell here in the DIY section of my blog. With the arrival of a new puppy there's been little time to hide away in the basement and paint things. But this past week I managed to carve out some time a.k.a crate the puppy in the doorway-and work on a little piece I have been itching to get finished!

So on Saturday, while M was out of town, Eugene woke up the nice and early start of 7:30. What else do you do at that hour on a Saturday morning? You grab some cash, write down a list of addresses and you go garage sale hopping. Lucky for me, the dog loves the car so it was a win/win situation.

In our travels we found some cool, cheap stuff including this mirror-

more on that in a future post-and we found this shelving unit.

I have been looking for a unique shelving unit to fit the weird space behind our bathroom door for ages now. I wanted something that we could use to store towels and other bathroom necessities because we don't have a linen closet. I found it for a cool $10. Score.

But, of course the wood was lame.

So I got to work in the basement/driveway. I sanded, primed and painted but this time around I took it one step further and painted the inside white, the outside grey and then I covered the back in fabric. I've seen that idea around pinterest and just loved it so I figured why not give it a shot?! I also bought a new handle for the drawer to jazz it up.

Here's the finished piece in the hallway.

And of course I had a little helper for the photographing of it!

I love it. It's beautiful and functional. In case your wondering the colors are Benjamin Moore 'cloud white' & 'escarpment'-our bedroom color.

We owned the towels but everything else I used to decorate the shelving unit came from garage sales or the local thrift store. Baskets were $2, vases for $1 each & that tiny wire crate was $1 too.

The best part though is the smell when you pass by -M brought how a new stack of Lush soap which I stashed in the wire create and it just smells divine!

That's it for this edition. If you are looking for more inspiration for something similar you might find it on my pinterest page-I did a lot of research!
