DIY Saturday: Mirror Redesign & WITL

Note: If you are here for Friday's 'Week in the Life' it's just below the nattering about the mirror.

Before I get started, I just wanted to mention that there's a great post about reupholstering things here that you might find interesting. It deals with pattern and scale and was very interesting for the beginner DIY'er that I currently am.

This week's DIY is a mirror that I found at a local hardware store.

Labeled 'rustic' it had this barn-like quality to it's wood but the price was right at $20.

It's large and was fairly easy to spraypaint.

So that's what I did. This week's item was quick and dirty- a quick sand, a coat of Zinsser & a few sprays with a can of glossy silver spray paint.

Here's the finished product:

It's currently sitting in our dining room on the china hutch that's not accesorized or even near 'decorating' completion.

The wood had interesting divets in it that really came out when I sprayed it but I have to admit that I really like it. They make it look a little more classy and I think it's fits the space well above the hutch.

Now onto 'Week in the Life'.

Friday Main:

We are attempting to grow grass on the little patch at the end of our driveway. My husband has a green thumb and is taking care of it. Eugene's little head can be seen in the bottom of the frame. He was super curious about the watering can and it's watering abilities.

Friday Collage:

From the top, left to right: 1. getting dressed for Jeans day. 2. Working at school. 3. the state of our living room-note the toys strewn all over the place. 4. Into my dog-friendly outfit after school. 5. Selfie in the proch pre-walk with Euge. 6. Our front porch door-guess where those smudges came from?! 7. The orchid in our living room that I haven't killed yet. I have a black thumb. 8. This is the look I get very regularly. 9. Chinese food at an old favorite.

We also watched 'We Bought a Zoo' tonight which I wanted to include but again, I think I'll add in some more pics when I put the book together. If you chose to watch it I would recommend snacks & an entire box of tissues. It's an AWESOME movie but it's a tear jerker my friends.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

xoxo
