That's Life.

It seems that November has truly flown by. I looked at the calendar today and though to myself 'where did the last three weeks go?!". I feel like the trick or treaters were just at the door ringing the bell and now here we are on the cusp of December.

Life has been hectic around here. I make no apologies for the lack of blogging...well, yes, I do. I hate not being consistent but sometimes life just gets in the way. Oh and the lack of daylight also seems to hinder progress on this here blog. By the time I get home to take pics of my latest creations the light has all but disappeared!

So here's a little update on our lives. It's short and sweet-basically it's been consumed by this job.

On a pure running euphoria high three weeks ago we decided that now-three weeks before a vacation and just mere weeks before Christmas- would be a great time to rip all the carpet off the stairs. We knew it would be a JOB. I had anticipated the staples and the grunt work but I had no idea it would be so time consuming. But it's done. I finished it this weekend and I couldn't be prouder. It's not perfect but it's much better than what was there before! Trust me! We had some help from a great friend of M's and my Dad who spent the better part of this last Monday laying hardwood on the landing.

I'll have a little DIY post with a few more pics on a Saturday soon but for now you just get a before and after.

Check out these shots from this post...

There's carpet on the landing as well but these pics don't show that.

Ignore the sanded railing. That railing was completed in February. Frankly, I forgot to take pics of the stairs before we pulled the carpet up. I was just too excited. We also painted the hall and foyer at the end of March so you'll notice that there's a big difference in the before and after.  This was the final step to make these stairs a showcase.

There's wainscoting on the riser and the treads were painted a dark espresso brown. We used molding to cover the hideousness that was on the side of the stairs and we covered the landing with hardwood to match the floors downstairs.

So that has consumed our lives.

And then there's work. I've been ridiculously busy subbing and M has been run off his feet this month at his work too. Seems there just haven't been enough hours in the day lately.

I'll be back tomorrow to share some creative pleasures!

xoxo

  2. Oh wow, your stairs look amazing! So classy and clean. I want them! It seems silly to want someone else's stairs but now I do!

I have the same problem photographing stuff in winter when the light is poor, but it's a lot better now I've fitted out my craft room with daylight bulbs in the overhead light and an upright lamp. Photos still aren't as good as in the daytime but they are better than before, and usually ok for blogging. x
