The Dog Whisperer-Kinda

Edit: Please note that yes, I realize that I spelled 'whisperer' wrong. Opps. Embarrassing. Blerg. It will be fixed before this layout goes into my album.

It's the last day of May-where did it go? Seriously?! I can't believe that June begins tomorrow! We've got some good stuff lined up for June too so I'm pretty excited about it. More to share tomorrow.

Now, for an explanation of that blog title.

M & I are big Ceasar Milan lovers. For those of you who aren't aware Caesar hosts a show called 'The Dog Whisperer'. We watch it pretty religiously.

But while we were in Ottawa our very good friend proclaimed himself a dog whisperer...and a baby whisperer. You see our friends Mark & Nicole also recently got a dog and Mark, the guy pictured below, decided he would spend the weekend he was visiting with us to 'dog whisper' Kobe their Boston Terrier. So funny.

IMG_0800

Then Allison & Paul came over to hang out. Mark decided he would also 'whisper' to the baby. It was hysterical to say the least.

Needless to say, he's not really a 'whisperer'. Sorry Mark. But he gave it a good shot anyways.

IMG_0801

But what the heck?! So that explains the title. And the story is tucker behind the single photo. Lots of strips of stickers (red circle by Crate Paper), washi tape (blue stripe by Bella Blvd) and some paper strips (AC). Also that stamp-by Studio Calico from a Project life set! LOVE it.

At the top I added a few buttons and a stamp with some scraps that I turned into little flags. I also did a little misting on this layout as well.

IMG_0802

Bright colors and funny stories-that's what this hobby is all about!

Wednesday: The Adventure; Part 2

I'm all about the adventures these days! I've been having all kinds of 'staycation' adventures while my friend D has been in town. There'll be a recap of that within the week but for today I thought I'd share a little mini-album I made of our adventures in Ottawa or O-town as I like to call it.

I used a Jillibean file folder for the bones of this layout and then used some neutral pattern paper, adhered to create a little book inside.Love those airplanes from the SC stamp set from their travel collection this summer.

IMG_0845

I think my favorite part of the cover thought is the badges I used in place of the 'o's- an idea suggested by my friend Peggy & what a good one.

IMG_0854

I used all instagram photos and stuck with a simple formula for each of the pages- a weekday title on some cardstock + some washi, a grid of 2 by 2 photos with a thin line around it and a little embellishment or two to dress it up a little.

IMG_0841
IMG_0842 IMG_0843 IMG_0844

I love those 'day of the week' stamps by Studio Calico. Aren't they awesome?!

IMG_0848 IMG_0850 IMG_0851

Love them. I love this mini album. It's simple but full of 'stuff' and lots of pictures! I'm the worst at journaling so you'll notice that there are very few words...journaling is not my forte. I'm working on fixing that!

Happy hump day!

Spring has Sprung...or so we thought.

So here in Newfoundland you never really know if Spring will come and stick around. Let's put it this way-May 24th weekend could be warm and sunny OR it could bring snow and low temps. Well, mother nature waited a week but she's intent on reminding us she hasn't forgotten about our Spring snow. The forecast for today may bring some sleet and snow. Seriously?! Never a dull weather moment here on the island of Newfoundland!

So to brighten my spirits today I'm sharing a little 'spring' layout I made.

IMG_0831

One of my favorite adventures with Eugene is going downtown. He's pretty cute so everyone loves him. We usually visit The Doghouse and that turns into a little romp in the park at the War Memorial.

I love a good grid so I used 2 by 3 photos in a grid for this layout. But perhaps my favorite part of this layout is the title section.

IMG_0832

I love those wood trees by Kaiser Craft and I added a little washi tape from Freckled Fawn and American Crafts, along with the leaves from a package of Amy Tangerine stickers to mimic the ground and anchor my photos. I also love that badge by SC-perfect for this layout don't you think!? Originally I had planned on typing my adventures and adding them on the side of the photo grid but recently I'm loving the look of ruled journaling lines and hand-written journaling so I stuck with that instead.

I really like this layout. It's got lots of layers but the photos are still in the forefront-just how I like it!

I'll leave you with a recent picture of Euge-

IMG_0827

Isn't he hilarious. This weekend while I was working at my scrapbooking table I leaned back to get something and discovered this sleeping mound behind my chair snoring. Hilarious. He has no fear of letting it all hang out huh?!

Monday Musings

And we're back to Monday.

I had a great party on Friday night for my birthday with the girls. We had a blast. There were lots of laughs and reminiscing even if the party didn't start until late.

IMG_0945 IMG_0948 IMG_0950

We also did some planting this weekend. Well, M planted while I supervised. For those of you who don't know-I have a black thumb. It's something I'm working on.

IMG_0961

And we went on a monster walk downtownand Eugene made a friend! She's a cocker spaniel too. Her name is Indie and she's just the tiniest and the cutest. We're going to plan some puppy dates!

indie

I've got a few Simple Scrapper layouts to share today as well-all about food. What a shocker!

When we were in Ottawa we visited a few of our old food haunts and of course there had to be layouts made about them.

This is the first double layout I've done in a while...

IMG_0978

On Good Friday we went to Whalesbone-an awesome seafood spot-for fish and chips and fish sandwiches. It was delicious.

IMG_0980

I stuck with lots of pattern in this layout and used a combination of instagram photos and regular photos-all taken with my iphone. Gotta love that little guy.

My favorite part might be the little tabs that came with my 'A Life Handmade' order last week.

IMG_0981

After our lunch at Whalesbone I wanted to hit up the Marbleslab for some ice cream-a little cake batter + mini eggs = delicious. Love it.

IMG_0976

Now I don't usually cut out pattern paper to use for embellishments but I couldn't help myself with the kite paper from My Mind's Eye. I used last months kit from 'The Paperie' and just loved the colors. I love how the little kite and the clouds came out too! So cute on top of that washi tape from Freckled Fawn.

IMG_0977

And that's a wrap. It was a good weekend around here.

29 Is Gonna Be Fine

Today is the big day.

29

I am officially 365 days away from my thirties. I'm not freaked out by that fact at all. Noooo.

But, I am a 'glass half full' kinda girl. So this year-the next 365 days-will be dedicated to an idea inspired by Kelly Purkey.

Enter: The 29 List

Hopefully I'll be able to cross all of these things off my list before next year's birthday.

1. Have a girls weekend.
2. Get back into dancing.
3. Run ‘Cape to Cabot’.
4. Host a Tea Party for the girls.
5. Have a picnic in Ferryland at the lighthouse.
6. Get published in Creating Keepsakes.
7. Take a class at the Anna Templeton Centre.
8. Take the tour of The Newfoundland Chocolate Factory.
9. Take a cooking class with Matthew.
10. Take a selfie every day for a month.
11. Find a tea I enjoy drinking.
12. Learn to properly ice cupcakes.
13. Rent a cottage for the weekend.
14. Finish decorating our house.
15. See the sunrise on Signal Hill or Cape Spear.
16. Visit three new places.
17. Take a beach vacation.
18. Survive a summer without camp.
19. Journal more in my scrapbook layouts.
20. Make a new friend.
21. Make stamps.
22. Make a point to see my girlfriends more.
23. Revamp my blog.
24. Make a photo book.
25. Take a class in something fitness related that I've never tried before. Spinning maybe?
26. Send more mail.
27. Use my 'real' cameras more. Sorry iphone.
28. Volunteer at a local event.
29. Join a running club.

That's the list. Ill be posting progress as the year progresses. I've printed out the list so I can carry it with me and have i out in my scrapbooking room to remind me of my goals. I love a good list but what I love even more is being able to cross things off of it!

Tonight's plans include a little 'camp themed' birthday party with some old friends. I'm pumped.

28 years + 364 days.

Tomorrow I turn twenty nine.

It's looming. I'm nervous but excited about it. Turning thirty really freaks me out so we won't go there! I've got 366 more days to worry about that. More on that tomorrow...

But, in honor tomorrow's birthday I wanted to create a list...

rightnow

No judgment please-some are serious and some are silly and materialistic.

1. My parents unconditional love and support. They are always looking out for what's best for me.
2. Matthew-let's get the sappy over with shall we?!- boy am I ever glad I met him.I don't know what I would do without him.
3. Eugene. He's taught me that there's no way you can walk into the house angry when there's someone who's that happy to see you.
4. 10 summers at camp. Need I say more...
5. The opportunity to practice in fields that I love, as both a teacher and an artist.
6. The chance to move away for a few years and spread my wings.
7. An awesome group of friends, both near and far, that I know I can count on in a heartbeat.
8. Being a Godmother. It's an honor. Thanks Liam-and Allison for having him.
9. My knee's support in all my running endeavors. Keep on keeping on please.
10. A house to call our own. It's pretty awesome.
11. To opportunity to travel and see places with awesome people.
12. That month I spent in Europe 'backpacking'- I use that term loosely.
13. Shows like 'Sex & the City', 'Dawson's Creek' and 'Gossip Girl'. Yeah that's lame, but there's my youth/twenties in a nut shell folks.
14. My love affair with New York City and the many chances I've gotten to visit her.
15. Food-especially cupcakes & ice cream.
16. Novels like 'The Happiness Project' for inspiring me.
17. Pinterest-how did I ever live without you in my life.
18. On that note- Instagram- ditto?! What would I do without you?!
19. Our move home to Newfoundland.
20. My brother-despite our differences I'm glad he's there when I need him.
21. My iphone. Yeah it's petty to be thankful for something material but hey, I say thank you Steve jobs. You did the phone proud.
22. 'Little Italy' at camp-they taught me how to have patience I had no idea were in me.
23. Visits from friends from around the world.
24. Music-for running, for dancing, for a good cry, for life. Bryan Adams 'Summer of '69'. YOU are my life anthem.
25. Christmas. I love it for family, friends and festivities.
26. Levi's skinny jeans. Nobody makes a better pair than Levi's.
27. Brenda. She's gotten us so very far on the road- including back to Newfoundland.
28. My health & happiness during the past 28 years which wouldn't be possible without many of the things above.

Stop by tomorrow to find out my plans for 29. I have a project that I'm excited to reveal tomorrow.29 is going to be EPIC.

Hoppy Easter

So Easter has long passed but the photos still linger on.

This was a layout I worked on a few weeks ago at the retreat but I haven't gotten around to sharing it until now.

IMG_0797

We gave Laim a bag of goodies for Easter when we visited Allison and Paul. It included a little board book, "The Velveteen Rabbit", a cool beach bag, a ball and some bubbles. Of course he was more interest in the bags of chocolates that we gave Allison and Paul! I think my favourite part of this layout is the bunny that I cut using the accucut system. He's peeking out over the pictures and he's very cute!

 IMG_0798

I also pulled some inspiration from pinterest for the layered flags that are anchoring my pictures. I included some twine to wrap around all the little pieces as well.

IMG_0799

It's a simple layout but I used up a ton of scraps and told a good story in a short period of time! Awesome!

Happy Hump Day!

My Guys

I love these two.

IMG_0807

Caught int he act with these faces! Typical.

IMG_0806

I was going for a circle theme with this layout and lots and lots of color. There are a lot of layers and detailing here but I love it. The vision that I had came full circle-lol. I'm so punny.

All kinds of little bits and pieces on this layout.

IMG_0808

My favourite might be this little badge from Ormulu. Love those and I have been holding onto them but finally bit the bullet and just used it!

I also used lots of stamps on this one!

IMG_0809

Love it. I see more circles in my future.

5 For Friday

1. It's a long weekend here in Canada. We're celebrating Queen Victoria's birthday which means here in NL it's May 2-4 weekend. Some people like to camp or open up their cabins this weekend. We're just happy to have an extra day off. It's a bonus that we have a special visitor joining us for a whole 10 DAYS on Monday night! I am beyond excited to see this lovely lady,  my bf D.

IMG_7156

2. This week I noticed on Elise's blog that she used a photo for her date card in her Project Life album. This is not something I've considered. I always have a hard time creating my date card and knowing what to put on it because it's such a small canvas and it's a rectangle, not a square. Using a photo is a great idea. I might try that!

3. Speaking of Project life- I am wayyy behind right now. Like think back to 'week in the life'. That's how far back I have to go. But this week Nichol M. created some pretty cool project life cards with some stamps on her blog. I might have to steal a few of her ideas to get me caught up! That's something I'm looking forward to doing this weekend.

4. Tonight I am going to see The Dance Centre's production of 'On With the Show'. I danced for 25 years of my life. When we went to Ottawa I didn't join a studio because it's as much about the people as it is the dancing and I just knew I couldn't replicate what I shared at TDC. But next year I'll be joining a class or two and I couldn't be happier about it. I can't wait to see all my girlfriends tonight! Break a leg ladies.

5. Yesterday my order from 'A Handmade Life' came! I was so excited. There's some CUTE stuff in there! I'm hoping to use some of it in my PL layouts this weekend!

Have a wonderful weekend folks!

Color Me Happy

So I'm not normally one to use a blank canvas like white for a layout. I like color. These days those colors are usually bright like teal, orange and yellow. However, I was going for something a little different with this layout, inspired by a cool one I saw on Pinterest.

IMG_0810

I wanted to just splatter some mist on the cardstock and then create a folding little album as such for my photos. It's a little interactive with a pull out tag for journaling and the little booklet opens to reveal two recent photos of me.

IMG_0812

Circles also became a theme here. I was even able to house my title in a circle from an old set of Maya Road chipboard windows.

IMG_0813

The style isn't necessarily 'me' but I like trying new things. I LOVE this layout-the color, the blank canvas background and the circles.

IMG_0811

Have you tried anything new or different from your usual style lately?! What is something you never do that you would love to try?

Flat Tires & Nail Parties

Yeah, those two things don't necessarily go together but I'm the worst at coming up with catchy titles for my blog posts.

So these are two more layouts I made for the May kit at 'The Paperie' this month.

IMG_0763

Read the title-it says it all. When this happened-we got a flat tire on the way to meet our friends to pick up Eugene- I was in a car with two computer science nerds and a computer engineer. It sounded like the beginning of a joke "Two computer science nerds and a computer engineer get a flat tire...". Hence the title. Now, I should tell you that it was a quick and painless event but man was it funny to see them all sizing it up and working as a little team to get us back on the road again. I even took a video but I won't subject you to that.

IMG_0766

Love those tiny stickers by Jillibean Soup that I used for the title. They go a long way!

I also tried my hand at a little masking with a cool chevron mask-not something I would normally try but I like how it made some of the stars pop out on the kraft cardstock by My Mind's Eye.

IMG_0767

When we were in Ottawa I also got to participate in a really cool event for my bf Sarah's birthday- a nail party!

 IMG_0769

It was awesome. These two lovely ladies from Beauty School Dropouts- a kickin' name- came over to do all of our nails with some pretty funky designs-I got grey and violet chevon on my nails. Check out our party on their blog as well! They were really cool and had a million colours of nailpolish. I loved it & really, what a cool idea!

IMG_0770

I'm having my birthday party in a few weeks and I'm thinking of some cool things to do. I've also been thinking of what I'm going to do for my 29th year-how will I make it EPIC & how will I document it. Giving that lots of thought as it's fast approaching. Any suggestions?!

A Big Thank You & A Few Projects

Before I share my kit layouts I just wanted to let you all know that my weekend bake Sale for Taffety, my little baking business, was a big success! A sincere thank you to The Paperie for hosting me and a big thank you to everyone who showed up to buy goodies! I hope that you enjoyed them! I also have to thank M for coming along and giving me a hand at the table. He broke his own 'I don't go in craft stores' rule to help me out. What a great husband!

Here's a quick pic curtosey for Lori-thanks pal!

taffety

Speaking of  'The Paperie'- the May kit goes live this week and man is it awesome!

It's filled with some Jillibean Soup goodness, mixed with a little Studio Calico, Freckled Fawn & a bunch of other yummies.

Today I'm sharing a few of my projects here on the blog but you might want to get into 'The Paperie' to pick up a kit if you aren't a regular subscriber! They have a limited amount but you won't want to miss it this month!

This one speaks for itself I think. Just read that title.

IMG_0755

I made that pinwheel last weekend during the retreat for my square punch demo. It's actually really easy. Just punch four square and cut them down the middle. Then round one of the corners and place them in the pattern you see above-there's no better way to explain that. It's takes a little fiddling but it' not that hard.

IMG_0756

If you haven't guessed-or you aren't a regular visitor-that's Liam that M is holding. For now, Liam is all the 'child' we need. We can give him back when disaster strikes! Eugene is enough work!

For this layout I was going for a circle theme.

IMG_0761

I love buttons. That's no shock for anyone who knows me. I wanted to try something different here so I used an old circle stamp set to stamp little circles for each of the buttons as they lead the eye across the page. I also used the accucut system to create the 'boy' in the title.

IMG_0762

I really wanted to send out 'It's a boy!' cards when we brought Eugene home but M thought that was a little overkill. Party pooper.

I'll be back tomorrow with some more projects!

Happy Monday!

xoxo

5 For Friday

1. I've finished my 'Week in the Life' album.

IMG_0796

It's going to go in my 'Project Life' 12 by 12 album. The lighting was the pits this evening so I only have a few quick shots. Sunday is still my favourite photo even if it is a little blurry.

IMG_0789

I decided to go with a thin strip of journaling on kraft paper for the second 12 by 12 protector. I was going to sew between the journaling and the photo collage but realized if I did that I would have to cut the 12 by 12 photo on the coordinating page as well and I just didn't want to do that. So, I kept the journaling simple-stamping the numbers for each of the collage photos and then handwriting the rest.

IMG_0793

For both my title page and each of my journaling strips I used the new Studio Calico weekday stamps which I simply adore. I see them showing up on lots of 'project life' work throughout the year.

2. I have another sneak peek of a little easy project I did this month with 'The Paperie's' May kit.

IMG_0774

Those sayings seemed to really speak to me. They are from a simple sheet of Jillibean cardstock but I thought that the advice they gave served as an excellent decorative item and so I used some navy, green and kraft cardstock, a few pop dots and framed it for my scrapbooking room.

IMG_0775

3. *NOTE: shameless plug here. Tomorrow I'm going to be at 'The Paperie' with lots of these goodies...

IMG_7670 IMG_7661 IMG_7659 IMG_6499

Among other delicious things!

My little baking company, Taffety, is doing a special Mother's Day bake sale at the store from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Come check us out and pick up some treats for that special woman in your life-or just treat yourself to something sweet and delicious!

4. Studio Calico came out with their new line this week. Sneaks can be found on the blog. I am beyond excited that the alpha from 'Stepping Stone' will be making an appearance on shelves everywhere come June. I LOVED it but couldn't nab it for myself on reveal day! I'm excited to pick it up when it comes out.

5. Speaking of Studio Calico-my UPS man should be delivering a big box of goodies today! I'm pumped. Not only is my main kit in there but so are the new 'Project Life' stamps that Kelly Purkey designed. Very excited about those.

Extra: 6. Washi Workshop at SC?! Need I ay more. Might have to sign up for that one! My collection of Washi continues to grow. Bring on the ideas!

Have a wonderful weekend!

xoxo
