The Paperie Card Kit: Part 1

I've been absent. I know. I've been busy. But onto the scrapbooking.

The Paperie revealed a new card kit at the retreat weekend last weekend and I was lucky enough to work with it. I created four 8 1/2 by 11 pages using the kit-and I am currently in the middle of an envelope mini-album that's not quite done yet!

The first layout I made I wanted to jazz up the plain white background so I used one of my few stencils and some ink to create the chevron print. I couldn't help but add a few droplets of mist as well as a spray here and there.

I used one fo the kraft tags included in the kit to stamp and emboss the 'howdy' tab from the Ali Edwards stamp set that came in the kit. I combined it with a little star pin by Maya Road and one of the cute little brads from Prima. The thickers weren't part of the kit but they fit well with the theme and let's face it-we all have a stash of letters at home that we can use!

I anchored my photos with a little pattern paper, some washi at the bottom and twine because I love the dimension that twine provides.

These photos were begging to be scraped. My best friend Allison is great at catching important moments of my God son Liam's life so I don't miss a beat. Her blog provides us with endless entertainment of his adventures. I sent some books up with a little card for my favourite little person and she snapped a few shots of him opening them! The kid loves books! Nothing wrong with that! I'm super excited to be taking a little trip to see them this summer!

For the next layout I grabbed some photos from last fall that I still hadn't scrapped. I added some droplets of mist to the red cardstock background. I chopped the kraft tag into two pieces so I could do a little layering.

I used more of those little star pins under a popped photo- I just stuck them into the dimensional square. And used another one of the stamps, trimmed as a little tab. Those were really nice.

And no layout is complete without a flag or two. I used a comination of the pattern papers in the kit to create these. A few brads and a stamped sentiment and I called it done.

M was insistent that Eugene be a bee for Halloween this year. I love a group theme costume so I had the challenge of figuring out how to make our costumes jive with Eugene's. Why not Winnie the Pooh & a honey pot?! Yep. Homemade costumes- a hipster Winnie the Pooh & a honey pot. Let's just say that dancing without arms, in a honey pot, is as ridiculously hilarious as it sounds.

I'll be back tomorrow with two more layouts and details to share.

Yes, that's M as Winnie The Pooh, I'm the honey pot & Eugene is a bumble bee! We are nerds!

We had so much fun at our Halloween party on Friday night. Nothing like a few handmade costumes!Eugene wasn't such a fan of the costume-particularly the headpiece. Don't worry-he only had to wear it for a few minutes of pictures!

And another one bites the dust...

Another weekend that is. It wasn't very exciting but it was somewhat productive. Friday night entailed two loads of laundry, many lysol wipes and a few hours of hard work to scour my dirty house. Everyone's house standards vary but after two weeks of being abandoned it was time for a serious clean-up here at my house. Of course cleaning means organizing and so our 'junk closet' was cleaned up and guess what I found? Halloween decor. So with lots of groaning from M the apartment got a little spooky decor. I think it's all my mom's fault that I feel the need to decorate for most monthly holidays including Halloween, Valentine's, etc.

Saturday we went for a walk downtown only to discover that Fall had arrived.

We had a delicious lunch at SteaK in the market after a visit to the Rideau Centre.

Yesterday afternoon I saw "You Again" which was funny and continued to solidify my theory that Betty White is the best actress EVER. She was hysterical as Grandma Bunny!
I continued my movie-watching last night as M went out last night. I wasn't in the mood to scrapbook but I did find this.

It's the cover of my 'Week In the Life' album from September 29th to October 4th 2008. It inspired me to start another "Week in the Life' tomorrow. Looking through the album made me realize a lot has changed since 2008. Now I don't have to feel so guilty about not following through with the layouts for my May month 'Week in the Life'.

Today was spent working-shocker. My facebook status currently reads :

"

Krista Wells

wonders why she decided to do a Masters in Education and teach full time? and why did she sign on for a technology course this term? I don't know whether to look forward to my weekends any more or dread them...December 3rd can't come soon enough.
"

That basically explains how i'm feeling today! Got a draft of my first assignment in my Tech course back. There's more red correction marks than Valentine's decor at Walmart in February. I have two weeks to 'fix it' to hand in my final draft. Somehow my professor thinks this is a good thing...i'm not so sure. It just confirms my lack of understanding and intelligence in that course.

And so another weekend comes to a close. M went to the grocery store and got lobsters for dinner-a throwback to summer. I'll take it for tonight...
